Public notification period ends for Aquis EIS.
Queensland’s Co-ordinator-General received 251 properly made submissions on the $8 billion project’s EIS, with the deadline for feedback closing on Tuesday.
The Co-ordinator-General will now assess all of the submissions in order to determine whether the development will go ahead.
Stage one of the project, to be located at Yorkeys Knob, is to include an artificial lake and island, a casino, and five hotels including 4000 rooms.
The planned stage two include three additional hotels including 3500 rooms, as well as a second casino.
The first stage will generate 3750 construction jobs, and 11,000 operational jobs once it is complete.
The second stage will bring 3500 construction jobs, and an extra 9000 jobs once it is fully operational.
Aquis CEO and director Justin Fung said the company was pleased so many people in the Cairns community and beyond had their say on the project’s EIS.
“The submissions will ensure that we can bring to the community all the benefits of the Aquis project, while also managing project impacts appropriately,’’ he said.
